About Anne Kolb Nature Center

Anne Kolb Nature Center is a 1,501-acre protected wetland located in Hollywood, Florida, within Broward County. The preserve occupies a critical coastal estuarine environment comprised mainly of mangrove forests, salt marshes, tidal creeks, and a large coastal lagoon, which serves as a vital nursery habitat for numerous marine species. The center offers a unique mix of freshwater and saltwater habitats, providing refuge for abundant wildlife including wading birds, fish, crustaceans, and reptiles such as the endangered West Indian manatee and various turtle species. The site also supports several migratory bird species, making it a popular location for birdwatching. Visitors can explore the center via its network of nature trails, boardwalks, and observation decks that weave through mangrove forests and marshlands. A prominent feature is the 60-foot observation tower, which offers panoramic views of the Everglades and the Atlantic coastal waters. In addition to terrestrial exploring, Anne Kolb invites visitors to enjoy paddling in kayaks and canoes through its calm coastal waterways. The Nature Center includes aquarium displays and interactive exhibits inside the visitor center that educate about the region’s ecosystem and conservation efforts. Anne Kolb Nature Center is an important urban oasis that balances habitat protection with accessible outdoor recreation, making it attractive to families, outdoor enthusiasts, educators, and wildlife photographers. Due to its proximity to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, it provides a rare natural setting near a major metropolitan area.
